1. The Singapore Zoo

The Singapore Zoo is among the most visited tourist destination in Asia. If travelling with kids, this is one of the must-visit spots on the island. The zoo is filled with exotic animals like white tigers, polar bears, and Asian elephants etc. In addition, the Singapore Night Safari is one of Singapore’s premier tourist attractions. Experience wildlife on a 45-minute tram ride or take one of the three Walking Trails to get a feel of the park in eight geographical zones covering forty hectares of forested park.

The sight of watching over one hundred different species of nocturnal animals (including leopards, lions and tigers) is simply amazing and something you will remember always.

2. Jurong Bird Park

If you're bored of seeing the numerous shopping malls and restaurants in Singapore, then try visiting the Singapore Jurong Bird Park. The Jurong Bird Park is the largest open-concept bird park in the Asia Pacific, with over 600 species of birds.

You can take a ride on the air-conditioned Panorail for a scintillating sight of the Park. You can also enjoy the fantastic Penguin Exhibit with an underwater viewing gallery, along with the world-clas All-Star Bird Show.

3. Sentosa

The island of Sentosa is just south of the main Singapore island. This place is another must-visit place as it contains Singapore's famous Sentosa beach resort. If you want to hang out on the beach and read a good book, there is no better place to do it than Sentosa beach.

There are also great hotels (e.g. the Rasa Sentosa) which provide top notch accommodation. You can also visit relics from the Second World War in Singapore, and go to the Underwater World where all sorts of interesting sea creatures reside.

4. The Singapore Botanic Gardens

Among the most interesting and most visited place in Singapore is the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The gardens are a lush and scenic park spread over 52 hectares of land right in the heart of the city.

The garden is accessible from the Holland road and Cluny Road, just off the western end of Orchard Road. The park is a great spot for people who want to enjoy time at a leisurely pace, go for a jog or set up a picnic spot. The Botanic Gardens are rather distinctive as they contain a whole variety of flora from differing climates.

5. Haw Par Villa

The 'Haw Par Villa', is an important tourist spot in Singapore. You can see all the different mythological and legends of the Chinese culture here. Moreover, you will be entertained by the dragon dances and other cultural shows. A dragon boat ride brings you through the ups and downs of the Chinese Hell.

Meningkatnya pengisolasian diri dapat mengubah cara kerja gen, membingungkan respons kekebalan, level hormon, fungsi urat nadi, dan merusak performa mental. Hal ini memang bertolak belakang dengan tujuan dibentuknya situs-situs jejaring sosial, di mana pengguna diiming-imingi untuk dapat menemukan teman-teman lama atau berkomentar mengenai apa yang sedang terjadi pada rekan Anda saat ini.

Suatu hubungan mulai menjadi kering ketika para individunya tak lagi menghadiri social gathering, menghindari pertemuan dengan teman-teman atau keluarga, dan lebih memilih berlama-lama menatap komputer (atau ponsel). Ketika akhirnya berinteraksi dengan rekan-rekan, mereka menjadi gelisah karena "berpisah" dari komputernya.

Si pengguna akhirnya tertarik ke dalam dunia artifisial. Level hormon seperti oxytocin yang mendorong orang untuk berpelukan atau saling berinteraksi berubah, tergantung dekat atau tidaknya para pengguna. Beberapa gen, termasuk gen yang berhubungan dengan sistem kekebalan dan respons terhadap stres, beraksi secara berbeda, tergantung pada seberapa sering interaksi sosial yang dilakukan seseorang dengan yang lain.

Menurutnya, media elektronik juga menghancurkan secara perlahan-lahan kemampuan anak-anak dan kalangan dewasa muda untuk mempelajari kemampuan sosial dan membaca bahasa tubuh. Kenyataannya situs-situs tersebut tidak menjadi alat yang dapat meningkatkan kualitas hidup, melainkan alat yang membuat kita salah arah," tegasnya.

Namun, bila aktivitas Facebook Anda masih sekadar sign in, mengonfirmasi friend requests, lalu sign out, tampaknya Anda tak perlu khawatir bakal terkena risiko kanker, stroke, bahkan menderita pikun.

Investasi di keranjang emas diibaratkan seperti memiliki pohon uang yang terus membuahkan keuntungan karena dianggap harganya selalu menanjak naik dari tahun ke tahun.

Namun perlu diingat juga emas bagian dari komoditi yang terpengaruh terhadap pergerakan kondisi ekonomi dunia seperti harga minyak, supply-demand, spekulasi dan lain-lain.

Potensi investasi emas di tahun ini diperkirakan akan masih berpeluang bahkan bisa menyamai atau melebihi rekor harga emas pada tahun 2008 lalu yang sempat menembus diatas US$ 1.032 per troy ounce.

"Saya rasa secara umum di tahun 2009 masih prospek, meskipun akan naik turun, selagi ekonomi masih resesi, emas masih punya kekuatan ditambah harga saham jatuh pula," kata Managing Director Vibiznews.com Alfred Pakasi dalam acara seminar prospek investasi emas tahun 2009, di Gedung JDC, Jakarta, Jumat (30/1/2009).

Naik turunnya harga emas menurut Alfred dipicu dari beberapa faktor utama yang bisa mendongkrak bahkan menjatuhkan harga emas yaitu pergerakan harga minyak dan pasar saham global. Hal ini tentunya terkait dengan kondisi ekonomi dunia termasuk AS.

"Misalnya dari paket stimulus AS senilai US$ 825 miliar yang mau diterapkan, maka harga emas turun lagi," ucapnya.

Sehingga kata dia, faktor stimulus AS sekarang ini cukup menentukan pergerakan harga emas beberapa bulan ke depan. Ia memperkirakan jika dampak stimulus bisa berpengaruh secara signifikan maka akan berpeluang membuat turun harga emas melandai kembali, yang sudah dapat diraba pada pada kuartal kedua atau ketiga di 2009.

"Tapi bisa juga kalau pasar modal pulih maka komoditas, terutama harga minyak yang naik maka harga emas kemungkinan naik juga," katanya.

Secara umum Alfred menjelaskan bahwa investasi emas sangat fleksibel, yaitu bisa sebagai investasi jangka pendek dan investasi jangka panjang. Bahkan lebih lanjut lagi investasi emas bisa dibilang investasi yang anti-krisis

"Yang penting bisa memprediksi pasarnya, misalnya faktor musim kawin di Asia yaitu di China, Indonesia dan India mempengaruhi demand. Tapi harga emas juga sangat terpengaruh dengan inflasi dan harga minyak," ujarnya.

Investasi emas bisa dilakukan dengan cara tradisional dengan menyimpan secara fisik seperti koin emas, batangan, ada sertifikat emas, perusahaan, pasar derivatif dan lain-lain.

Pada tahun 2008, rekor harga emas tertinggi terjadi pada 17 Maret 2008 yaitu US$ 1.032 per troy ounce. Sedangkan jika di Indonesia pada waktu yang sama (17 Maret 2008) harganya mencapai Rp 311.300 per gram.

Pada tahun 2008 rekor harga emas terendah terjadi pada tanggal 24 Oktober 2008 yaitu Rp 223.500 per gram dan pada tanggal 28 Januari 2009 kemarin sempat menembus Rp 320.500 per gram.

"Yang anehnya harga emas itu, jika harga minyak turun maka harga emas ikut turun, tapi kalau harga minyak turun tajam, harga emas tidak ikut turun tajam," jelasnya.

Risiko Investasi Emas

Meski terbilang sebagai investasi yang aman, investasi emas apapun bentuknya masih menyisakan peluang risiko, sesuai dengan konsep high risk high gain. Menurut Alfred hal ini sangat terkait dengan pengetahuan pasar para investor emas.

"Risiko itu ada terkait dengan pasar, bisa lewat berita, koreksi emas bisa terjadi," ucapnya.

Ia memprediksi ke depannya ketika resesi dunia semakin parah yaitu ke arah depresi global, maka reaksi awal dari pergerakan harga emas pasti akan terjadi penurunan, namun seiring berjalannya waktu akan bisa naik kembali.

"Masalahnya tidak ada yang tahu berapa lama, atau kapan itu terjadi," pungkasnya.

Review:
Every decade deserves its "Forrest Gump" I guess. David Fincher's adaptation of a little known (and monumentally depressing) F. Scott Fitzgerald story is this one's. Depending on your point of view, that's either a damning condemnation or just what the doctor ordered.

Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is born a prematurely old man, but rather than quickly expiring as everyone expects, he keeps getting bigger and stronger and it soon becomes apparent he's ageing backwards, at which point all connection to the original story ceases. In a piece of none to subtle commentary (and that about sums up the whole film), Benjamin's very freaked father abandons him on the doorstep of one of New Orlean's first retirement homes.

Fitzgerald's story, among other things, was about the oft-made connection between the nature of childhood and old age, and the film version passes no opportunity in doing the same. However, that's as far as Benjamin's condition ever gets insofar as it affects his personality. For the most part it passes unnoticed and only is occasionally commented on. And that's because Benjamin wasn't born an old man, he was just born looking like one, and that shamelessness is reflected in quite a lot of the rest of the film. Part of that is because Fincher and screenwriter Eric Roth are trying to depict Benjamin's circumstances in a realistic world. They're not interested in telling a fairy tale, they want to tell a travelogue. And that's essentially what "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is. Benjamin is born at the close of World War I, and after a copious amount of time is spent with his youth, pounding in the idea of old childhood (and vice versa), he sets out to make his way in the world.

It is without question a wonderful looking film. Fincher is operating at the peak of his powers here. He's not telling a fairy tale, but he has created a world that's an ideal--be it frozen Russia, an ocean filled with dead bodies, or rural India--which should give you an idea how his film wanders. It's constructed as more of a loose set of vignettes, related through Benjamin's diary (being read in the present day) of different moments. And lots of those moments are fantastic, particularly a nighttime battle between a tugboat and submarine.

The cast is also generally excellent. Pitt has to do some of the hardest work of his career, playing both adult and young Benjamin while lathered in old age makeup, with his head composited onto a doubles body. It's a testament both to Fincher's ability and Pitt's performance that the effect is largely seamless. In fact the performances all around are superb, from Cate Blanchett as the love of Benjamin's life to the various individuals Benjamin meets during his travels. The two real standouts are Tilda Swinton as a lonely diplomat's wife and Jared Harris as a bawdy ship captain who always wanted to be an artist.

The problem is Eric Roth's script, who not coincidentally also wrote "Forrest Gump" (fourteen years ago! has it been that long?). Meandering would be a nice way to put it. He has some pretensions to a novelistic feel, starting with a fable about a clock that runs backwards and various side stories throughout. A lot of them sound good on paper--a meditation on the confluence of events leading up to a car accident--but a lot of them (particularly a recurring image of a humming bird) land with a dull thud. It can be awfully overwrought and the more the film goes on the more obvious it gets.

And did I mention it's long? I don't generally have a problem with long movies, if they keep me engrossed. But "Benjamin Button" feels every minute of its nearly three hour running time, and its impossible not to feel like at least a half an hour could have been lopped off. Especially towards the end when director and writer seem to become impatient with details and reduce the last decades of Benjamin's life to a montage. It feels cheap, especially considering how much time and attention was given to Benjamin's youth. Or maybe it's just because the lyrics to "Even Rocky Had A Montage" wouldn't leave me alone.

By following the length of Benjamin's life (and then some), Fincher is able to showcase all the different eras of the 20th century, from the roaring '20s to World War II to the '60s and on to the present day, as the readers of the diary sit in a hospital in New Orleans on the eve of Hurricane Katrina. Fincher and Roth are really trying to tell the story of the 20th Century, but they don't seem to have a clear idea what they want to say about it, just that it happened and should be remembered. Which is something I suppose, but feels more than a little vague.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" just isn't up to the bar it's set for itself, largely because of a screenplay that, for all its strengths, lacks focus. There's a lot to like about it (and a loooot to sit through to get to those moments), and on paper it sounds like it should be great. But it isn't. It's still worth your time, but you might want to wait for DVD where you can space out the viewing some.
